    heretic ticks?

Hi. Doom (full/shareware) has the "-timedemo" parameter that we can use to find the fps performance. Is there a similar thing for heretic shareware? I am using version 1.2 (latest) when I use "-timedemo demo1" (or 2 or 3) it does stupid things, looking up down up down..

    Doom 3 version Aug 2004

Does anyone has Doom 3 bought very early? Like August 2004 or preferably just 2004, but not 2005. I want to test the earliest released version executable, I was hoping if someone who has it could send me it, but excluding game data files (pak000.pk4-pak004.pk4) Be safe.

    Need help: AOD

Hello, First time experiencing the Dehacked. Trying to run AODDOOM2.WAD and AODDOOM2.DEH with Vanilla Doom 2. (Army of Darkness Doom) I thought dehacking was as simple as something "c:\doom2\dehacked doom2.exe aoddoom2.deh aoddoom2.exe" or something and it will spit out a nice executable that will make it run. *************************************************************** Anyway, Trying this ">doom2.exe -file aoddoom2.wad" fails with this error "W_CacheLumpNum: 2951885 >= numlumps" After dehacking it with aoddoom2.deh using deh3.1 and running ">aoddoom2.exe -file aoddoom2.wad" fails with the same error as above. *************************************************************** Am I doing something wrong? How can I make this work properly? Thanks very much.

    Need help: AOD

AOD has a single deh and a single pwad. I want to make this mod work the way it would have been done in the old days. I think the thing I maybe was missing is the thing you call "merging"? What is that? Dehacked changes executable as told by the deh file, and pwad replaces graphics/maps/sounds of the original iwad. What is even merging? I am a bit confused now. Edit: wow wow, wait a min now, I think I am learning new things as do more search. It is not impossible, but very impractical to modify sprites using a pwad? If I understood correctly? And thats why we have something called wad merging?

    Need help: AOD

Thanks for the answer, but it's not only about getting the mod to run, but also understanding what's going on. (Edit: plus it requires csdpmi? seriously?) As far as I knew, vanilla doom mods come in two forms: pwads and dehs. Pwad changes stuff like textures, sprites, maps, music, sounds, etc... Deh applied using dehacked changes stuff hardcoded in the executable: game behaviour, texts, weapon/enemy behaviour, hits, etc... Why can't I properly dehack and play AOD? What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something?

    Doom 64 EX, the best.

    freelook

I was thinking. Did any of 90s official doom console ports had up-down look ability? (jaguar, genesis/32x, snes/sfx, ps1, 3do, saturn, n64)

    freelook

I am not a fan of free-look either. But I think it would be more realistic if no shot hit if a character is out of visible field, and certainly if close attacks like pinky biting not happen if there is elevation difference.

I hate GZDoom and AMD and OpenGL

GZDoom doesn't work on my ATI Radeon. GZDoom is known to be shitty on AMD cards. Is it AMD's fault because similar problems are not present on intel and nvidia? Is it GZDoom developer's problem because no other OpenGL ever had a problem on my ATI Radeon? Is it OpenGL's fault because if it did not exist I wouldn't have been having this problem. I don't know. I just decided to hate all three: gzdoom, amd and opengl. ************************************* System: notebook, intel core2duo 2ghz, 2gb ram, ati mobility radeon hd 2400 xt, tried all kind of drivers(latest and older ones). I get no textures (all white), or some textures only, or no sprites and no weapon. (Absolutely no problems with DirectX games either.) I wrote this mainly to show my hate to gzdoom, amd and opengl. But any advice that would solve my problem will be appreciated.

Console Wars: Doom SNES vs 32X

I totally enjoy playing every doom port from 90s except 3do and saturn. Every one of them has a different flavor to it. It's like trying different ice creams, except 3do and saturn are made by an awful ice cream maker. And vanilla doom is invented by ice cream maker Carmack.

1995 called. They want their Doom levels back.

Keep it coming. Kepp it vanilla.
  14. whats better than the original: smaller download. (140mb vs 230mb). whats worse than the original: everything else.

Console Wars: Doom SNES vs 32X

Yeah. There many ways to rank them: absolute rank (Digital foundry's ranking is this), bang per buck ranking (Genesis/32x is very good here actually, considering that it was cheap), per hardware capability ranking (shame to saturn and 3do, snes/sfx isn't bad at all in this ranking, it only had so much capable hardware, it's as good as it could be), etc... Also it is known that some of these could be better, but were not due to reasons. 3do: extremely rushed, saturn: carmack did not allow fast version to be reeleased due to texture warping that he hated so much, Genesis/32x: a bit rushed, could have more levels, Snes/sfx: nothing to say here, maybe could be 1 frame faster or 3-4% higher resolution if any little optimizations are left :D

Console Wars: Doom SNES vs 32X

Carmack should have let Saturn Doom be the way it was. Texture warping is not very bad. Lots of good PS1 games had texture warping and in some sense it is better, it's like textures are alive. Carmack himself later regretted his decision. Sometimes geniuses also make mistakes.

Console Wars: Doom SNES vs 32X

In my opinion Genesis/32x Doom is of the better console dooms out there. I absolutely love it, including the music. Considering bang per buck it is one of the best. I think Digital Foundry's ranking is very correct: Bad: 3do, Snes/Sfx, Saturn Mid: Genesis/32x, Jaguar Good: N64, PS1 But Snes/Sfx is my favourite among the bad console dooms.

    freelook

Thanks everyone for the answers. I am not a doom newbie (as a player) who came from bRRRutal doom (hate it) or Doom 2016, and I did my search before posting here. It not like in features they write "no freelook in this version", like it was in any other. I asked because technically especially ps1 and n64 have 3d hardware acceleration and a lot other 3d games on these machines are fully 3d (have u-down look ability), I wonder then, is it technically not possible to up-down look (because of rendering algorithm) on these or it's just there are no key bindings for that. Just a thought.

    DOOM 4 VANILLA v3.2

I was excited to see an excellent looking mod for vanilla. Not much of these is done these days, most go directly for gzdoom. But my excitement was gone for reasons mentioned.

    DOOM 4 VANILLA v3.2

Inconsistent files, too many versions, too many files, the need for fix files, etc... It could have been as simple and as clean as: "d4v.wad, d4v.deh, d4v.txt" (3 files, plus maybe a dehacked executable for those who are not familiar with deh). But no, it is complex and messy. I will not have it, for now. Sorry, everyone has an opinion, this is mine, it can be ignored or taken as a feedback, like any other opinion.

    DOOM 4 VANILLA v3.2

I know. What I ask is, what difference is between regular and dos versions of d4v.wad (this exact file)? They are not the same files. (I checked 2.5.7, still not same). Most of the map wads have dehs of their own, what happened to them? why not included?
