Nightmare is right on target, I honestly cant see how anyone can call his response idiotic, I agree 100% But a reviewers job *IS* to attempt to give an objective analisys that serves as a guide for OTHERS and not himself. A reviewer in ANY medium should go over the qualities of the work, focusing on things that might be of interest. The whole point of a review is to let you know wether a map is worth downloading or not. Saying "this maps sucks" without backing it up is not a "review" at all Thsi is not the first time Deathz0r has done an unsatisfactory job with reviewing .wads - someone else should replace him if he doesnt step his game up

Either way, the point is im creaming my pants over a mod. The best things in life really are free apparently.

Note that the original solo in both games were played on keyboard, not guitar. Youll notice that the E1M1 solo is extremely difficulut, and thats because it was not originally created (written?) on guitar. The same can be said for Doom2's first level

Im so hyped for this, skulltag > all online FPS besides Unreal tounrament

Sometimes, I wonder... [id caring about Doom]
Wobbo replied to Job's topic in Doom General Discussion
There are plenty of excellent games which dont get their proper recognition - System shock 1 and 2, Theif and many others. However very few excellent games are called "horrid" "terrible" and "the biggest dissapointment in FPS history" Daikatana is an excellent game by old school FPS standards, it has better level design than any other game released in that era (and remember that era had much better level design than anything today). It still holds up today as more fun for me than Half life 2, Doom 3 or even good FPSes like Far Cry It was just pack mentality that caused people to deride it; everyone knew that John Romero was genuinely getting cocky and the advertising campaign was insulting to the entire industry. But the game itself if more entertaining than any modern FPS. Its thus the most underrated PC game of all time -
Skull tag is not only more fun and interesting than Zdameon, but in my opinion more fun and varied than most other FPSes than Quake 3 and its practically free. What a wonderful world

No national party that allows people like George W Bush to win primaries, rallies around the confederate flag, and supports barbaric policies like the drug war, war on terror, war on whoever we dont like etc. can possibly escape getting that reputation among decent and civilised people YOU need to get a grip on reality, and learn to live with it.

This is extremly good, its hard to compare because other runs are usually on Veteran or Nightmare - but its still well done Doom3 isnt really a game that lends itself to speedrunnign at all though

It took me about 3 years to figure out what all the characters represented. Very disturbing game - a classic for its genre

Excactly waht he said^^^ Games are too linear nowadays
-
except for doom 3 I totally agree, Half life level design was very overrated at the time and still is
-
extremely fun and interesting to look at Nice music selection
-
excactly, whats the point of making a movie with doom in the title if you not trying to get the attention of fans of Doom? Im not buying or watching it ever

LOL, you really cant tell hes being sarcastic? hes DISAGREEING WITH YOU sorry man, several reviewers got to see pre-screenings, and it sucked. It happens all the time

Technical question: The Voodoo 2 DID have support for colored lighting... why dont you see any of that here?

Uh no, not really. You see the internet is a means of communication for DIFFERENT PEOPLE. *SOME* of us want innovtion (most of us I would guess). But everyone has the right to critique certain gameplay aspects. This is a myth propagated by desginers and people who lack creativity, its called projection (ie i cant make or enjoy games that arent exactly like the last guys game so... uh... *people really dont even want originality!* yeah thats it!") CArmack is guitlty of this too. actually its a perfect example of the myth in action. Unreal was a very poorly designed game. The weapons were original concepts, but basically pea shooters that did little damage and annoyed the hell out of everyone who actuallly played the game and didnt just drool at the graphics Once again, we all want originality, but we also want BALANCE. Theres no contradiction there, unorginal people USE that contradiction to say "ah - ha! you guys dont really want original ideas in your games do you?" What we want is new ideas done well. I really feel sorry for people like this, and that is by no means an insult or flame. Its interesting that you can imagine nothing better or more complex than shooting down cliched bad guys other than discussing the finer points of literature. The best I can tell you is to check out System shock 2, (or system shock 1, or theif, or deus ex, etc... ) and get back with us. These are "original FPSes" in any sense of the term. Theyre perfect examples of where the genre shoudl be goin imo. The only way you can say these games are "modifications of a formula" is if you define the "formula" of FPSes so broadly that you render it useless for discussion. No ones asking for games to be so crazy theyre outside the genre, were asking for better more origninal FPSes. I love the genre, and I still play all the id games despite my critisicm. PS Bioshock looks great, check out the interview Ken Levine gives on that site

This looks fantastic

i agree with that Adrian Carmack was trying to lead the company in a new direction and probabaly sick of making crappy, unoriginal game concepts wrapped up in a shiny new graphics engine. He has the right to influence a company he owns and built up with his own sweat blood and tears as much as carmack or anybody else. The result of others at id ignoring his wishes was the "game" doom3 - a hyper linear parody of everything FPSes shouldnt be, the excact inverse of what Doom - and id software games in general - should be all about. in this context we should think about what happened. What Adrian did (firing the other empoloyee, attempting to get Avtivision to take contol) was wrong, dictatorial and selfish, but you can understand his grievances and sympathize with his situation. At least I do. The carmack leader worship is also understandable, and theirs plenty of ego to go around on all sides (despite the impression you get reading one or another person's .plan files). I think people should be more sympathetic to Adrian, at least until we know more

I agree, and i cant even get zdaemon to work yet so deleting sounds like a tempting idea
