    Doom3 wasnt disturbing because it went out of its way to constantly remind you your playing a game all the time. Everything from the level design to the monster use was not in any way resembling classic dooms gameplay, imo it was a simplified half-life. Ironically, the only part of the game that i felt was scary involved the monsters NOT being visible. I was moving through the underground before you meet the mancubus, and all you could hear was the thumping of his feet... THAT was the only part of the game that actually got to me. games that have been truly scary have scary environments, and to me its more importnant to have the player player explore and discover... doom3s environmnets dont allow that

    *REinstalled* ok, downloading the antigravity map and the ... OHMYGOD MAP07 conversion!!!!!! I cant wait! *knows in the back of his head that he'll be dissapointed*

    there really werent any times when id allowed monsters to explore or chase you around the environment, so the pinkys really couldnt work out however, the *concept* of the pinky demon with the half machine legs and all that i thought was cool

    New Patch destroys multiplayer?

    I can find very few servers that are even working at a ping below 300, however, when i do I get a bug thats very strange... the game slows to almost a halt, about .4 frames per second ( Idont have the showfps on so i dont know what it thinks its getting) this occurs even on empty servers with pings of 20! wtf!!?? the game runs perfectly fine in everyother aspect, including making my own server... and it ran 100% perfect before the patch was out.... now I dled the patch and the multiplayer is unplayable I have a Cable connection, and an ATI Radeon 9800... im scared to download any new drivers because it worked perfectly before at 1024 high Quality Im thinking it has somehting to do with the network code, but that really shouldnt be the case since your connection speed has nothing to do with rendering of the graphics... thats all handled on the client side WHY ARENT THERE BOTS?

    hmm, thats interesting Im not mad at anybody, ill give the author the benefit of the doubt that he tried his best but still it suckx that i have to reinstall and dl the patch again at least i still have all my saved games, i can back up most things and thre really arent that many mods to worry about re-downloading so its not so bad in the meantime i gotta say that the level of interactivity is closer to what i think doom3 should have been. Nobody expected id to go in the direction of sytem shock, but little thing like being able to turn lights off and open lockers really add to the experience

    I liked the way barista was done, but i currupte my doom3 install trying to get it to work :~( now i have to reinstall teh whole thing dammit just out of curiosity... how did you get it to work Eypo?

    Curch of ruins was really bad, kinda like an early amatuer Quake 1 map, in fact the graphics looked excactly like Tenbrae The moster battles with the beserk were amusing though I also liked whatever pixel shader he was using to get the ground to ripple like that, it was cool when it was used in teh game too dl Barista 3 right now...

    RTCs story affects whats going on and what you ACTUALLY DO in the game... WAY better thna whats in doom3 most of the filler in doom3 isnt even a story anyway, just a cheap way to get around the games shortcoming... like putting an email that complains about the darkness on the base to get around the fact that the eentire game is poorly lit No, cutscenes are ALSO filler. Half life has a story that affects gameplay, i.e. the military decides your a threat and now you have to deal with them

    because the situations you face monsters in is ridiculously unrealistic and constantly reminds you *youre just playing a game* theres nothing immersive about "monster doors" that only open when your RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. whats the point of "AI" at all if the monsters are RIGHT in front of you and NEVER hunt you down? Frankly, except for the Z-sec guys (which were well done, i wish more onsters were liek them) i could even *tell* if the game had any better AI than the original doom games! Its true that there are some imp manuvers and whatnot.. but those are 100% scripted.

    yep, and considering the SDK still isnt out theres no mods if the single player had any replay value it would be ok, but it doesnt wouldnt matter too much if there were bots anyway, the maps that ship with the game suck... horribly and theres only 5 of them (only 4 are orgiginal)
  25. no, thats false, the texture *SWAPPING* causes the slowdown, after a few levels the textures dont magically go away from your memeory when theyre not in use, just like hardrive deleetion, it doesnt actualy remove data, just marks it for overwriting also, if you pay close attention the demo proabably does NOT use excactly the same amount of textures and items from the full game you really should be careful you know what your talking about before you make arguments like that
