    Quality of Life Patches for various WADs

    Hey, who did widescreen assets for Vile Flesh? I looked at them in the past and I thought they were impossible to do properly, so I'm very curious about creation process of these pictures. That's also the reason why I am so transparent with how I extend assets of wads. It will be a lot easier for newcomers to do widescreen images, if they at least know what programs to use and if they won't need to figure out almost everything on their own. Also, when I was looking for credits of widescreen fixes, I noticed that fixing typos is also part of these patches. And I didn't fix level names in my patch, so my patch is invalid/inferior anyhow (even if I added an ending screen at map 10 which literally says "Thank you for playing Bloody Steel!", "Go do something else"). Damnit
  2. Bloody Steel gets proper treatment at Widescreen Asset Factory "Открытый Разлом" 10 years later! TITLE, INTERPIC and CREDIT images are now available in 16:9 ratio both in PNG and vanilla Doom format! I had SO much fun making this! First of all (along with proper UMAPINFO by me, that can be found in this thread) I fixed a translation error regarding the name "UAC" in Russian in the middle poster and in the textures too. Right translation for Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) would be Объединённая Аэрокосмическая Корпорация (ОАК) as seen in these pictures below: Second, the screenshot with rocket launcher was re-taken in MAP05 and darkened a bit: Then the vortex at the right side below "БУДЬТЕ БДИТЕЛЬНЫ!" poster was found with TinEye and for Doom format picture - desaturated: Upper left corner image is a flipped Dimensions TITLE/INTERPIC. Very sneaky: Down left corner has a typical USSR "Grandma Carpet" (Бабушкин Ковер) that you hang on the wall most of the time. Picture is flipped and cropped mostly to center: And the last 2 new pictures are modified USSR posters themed after UAC propaganda and demon-slaying by me! Extended HUD was done by NightFright2k19 (I think) while everything else was done by me. ZDoom ports version: bloodysteel_zwide.wad Vanilla version: bloodysteel_wide.wad All images edited and found with Paint.net, GIMP, SLADE, TinEye, sore throat and with DougDoug videos and this masterpiece playing in the background.     Bloody Steel now has widescreen assets and proper UMAPINFO 10 years later! Also, along with adding UMAPINFO I decided to fix one translation error than bothered me for a long time, which is the translation of UAC to Russian. UAK doesn't make sense in ANY language, the right name would be ОАК (Объединённая Аэрокосмическая Корпорация). And, no, I'm not going to fix "3th century" as seen on screenshot, it's too funny Extended HUD was done by NightFright2k19 (I think) while everything else (extended TITLE, INTER, CREDIT in both Doom and PNG format along with UMAPINFO with level names and endscreen) was done by me. bloodysteel_fix.wad You can check out the full process of widescreening (and some hot and new Soviet UAC propaganda posters by me in full resolution) and a download link to 16:9 assets in this thread here. After a little break in Turkey, I have returned to my feather and paper to bring you all something that I had in my mind for a while after Endoomer started another playthrough on his channel (and also when I looked at various QoL patches by @Devalaous, to see what wads miss widescreen assets)... Maybe you have already guessed by translating top text and looking at Endoomers channel that the wad I'm talking about iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis... HEROES' TALES by Russian Doom community! Not much to say about creation process of these... TITLE was extended by me, sourced from Vasnetsov painting: All of the other ones were remade from scratch, so they look a bit better, because I couldn't figure out how to make them look like Atari 2600 demo-scenes (that meaning worse), so sorry about that. Cast sequence picture is a cropped version of another Vasnetsov painting called The battle of Dobrynya Nikitich with the Serpent Gorynych from 1918: Intermission is yet another painting of Viktor Vasnetsov - Knight at the Crossroads (1882): And the CREDIT image is a zoomed in (and slightly, rotated actually) painting called "Alyonushka" by Vasnetsov AGAIN! Just one of the greatest painters of all time, killing it even 140+ years later: All of them were found by using TinEye, Google Lens and common knowledge. Well, there you have it!     7 years... 7 years have passed since the release of this beast. MANY talented players managed to complete this behemoth of a wad and 7 years later people still strive towards beating the hardest thing in doom... ... But not me, I find this wad impossible without saves on ANY difficulty, because my hardest wad 100%'ed Pistol-Started on UV saveless is like, TNT, Heretic or maybe Sigil, but I still strive towards this wad in a different manner... Towards a beauty and Quality of Life manner. Laptop in hand, with TinEye and Gimp I offer all the bravest players in world 16:9 version of TITLEPIC and INTERPIC! Brutally harsh Zzul-violent blizzard of a mod is now widescreen friendly! The original post (also with widescreened Italo Doom) is here. I don't know if bumping a thread is a bad thing, but I felt like it belongs here.

  7. You forgot to add ST prefix instead of PL and TN ones, so it doesn't work Also Tnt hud is broken, because it's shifted to the right unlike any other status bar

    Mochaccina's Thy Flesh Consumed MIDI Pack

    Blazed through Episode 4 pistol start UV-MAX saveless because of this pack (and also to try Alaux's Smooth Doom MBF21 mod) and really liked it! The music ranges from classic midi metal goodness to "my only light aside from muzzle flash is gone" vibe tracks, which is super cool! It goes well with something like boiled doom, snake eyes or other mods that make you feel endangered. My least favourite track is probably E4M2, because it's so god damn repetitive and in my opinion the best midi here is from E4M3 which rocks so hardwith it's guitars! I like this pack a lot and if you don't like experimentality of Ultimate MIDI Pack and want something with a horror-like atmosphere with occasional head-bangers, then you will like it too! I give this an 8/10
  11. Just blazed through Episode 4 again on pistol start saveless UV-MAX to try this mod (and also to listen to Mochaccina's MIDI Pack) and loved it! I'm so glad that I don't need another port just to play with smoother animations (especially the one that I started to hate overtime). And nobody told me about particle effects, new death animations and new xdeath states (WHICH ARE SO COOL BTW), so it just surpassed my ALL of my expectations! The only thing that bothers me is particles triggering pain states, but you have the classic edition and it's not like I'm going to record Flotsam demos with this. I give this mod a 10/10! MBF does what GZDon't!
  12. Today's theme of my "Widescreening random assets for no reason" journey iiiiiiiiis... HARD AS NAILS WADS FOR DOOM-GODS! IIIIIIIIIIIIn this corner we have Italo Doom! 20 map BOOM compatible wad full of diverse levels, tricky combat and Fancy's disco hits and other Italian classics. But on the TITLEPIC we have chinese band LuxyBoyz and on INTERPIC we have british singer Eddy Huntington... now in 16:9 ratio! The original TITLE is taken from LuxyBoyz website: And Intermission picture is taken from this performance of May Day (And the details of Eddy HuntingRifle's jacket can be also found in this video and no, I'm keeping the weird line in): And on the other side we haaaaaaaave DIMENSIONS! The hardest possible thing you can beat in doom is now widescreen friendly! Both TITLE and INTERPIC are the same: Not much to add here, just TinEye and streching in gimp That is pretty much it. I don't really think these wads REALLY needed widescreen imagery, but they were fairly easy to do, so why the heck not? And why not also make some cool little desktop icons? But I'm still not done! Call right now and you'll get a special "Doomworld Widescreen Assets Appreciation" deal, with a quick widescreen edit of TITLEPIC from our beloved Hell Ground! P.S. I couldn't do Intermission pic because I don't know it's origin. It's definitely some kind of Doom 2 texture, but TinEye and google image search give no results, so if you can track it down, it would be much appreciated: I'm very good at this game btw

Quick tutorial on how YOU (the people) can crop widescreen assets to ANY aspect ratio: Step 1: Download the image you want to crop and ANY image in the aspect ratio you want it to be cropped (For example, if you need to crop 16:9 image to 4:3 format, you need a 4:3 picture) Step 2: Count the width of original image and the image in preferred aspect ratio (For example, 426p in 16:9 ratio and 320 in 4:3) Step 3: Subtract the width of the random image from the width of original picture and divide that number in half (Like (426 - 320) : 2 = 53) Now that you know the nessesary numbers for cropping the original image to the ratio you want, you can crop with 2 editors: SLADE3 or Paint.net PAINT.NET METHOD (one that I use) Step 1x: Open the original image in Paint dot net Step 2x: Drag and drop the dummy image into the editor and click "Add layer" Step 3x: Move the image to the right until it's at [number that you calculated earlier] pixel (when it says [your number] in the bottom left corner) Step 4x: Deselect the dummy image in layer menu (The highlighting lines won't dissapear and it's okay) Step 5x: Go to Image -> Crop to Selection Step 5x: DONE. Save As PNG THE SLADE 3 METHOD (The other one) Step 1xx: Open the wad with widescreen assets that you want to crop in Slade Step 2xx : Right click the image you want to crop, go to Graphic -> Crop Step 3xx: Choose "Relative" and in the "Left:" type [Number from Step 3] and in the "Right:" type [Negative of number in left] Step 4xx : Hit ok and DONE! Enjoy your old-school modern experience!
