The DWmegawad Club plays: Memento Mori 2

Thanks for the great comments guys and girls. I really enjoyed the entire thread. Actually this got me reminded of Icarus and I read the entire thread made in 2015 September. To sum up the experience, I must say, that it impossible to parallel. For me, both Memento Mori 2 and Icarus are the highlights of the 90's with regards to Doom mapping. I will always have this irrational love towards both mapsets. All of the levels in them are a time machine to me, and probably some other people too... As such their value is impossible to estimate. The music plays an important aspect, but that's probably only me and some other music freaks. The architecture: It was very interesting to read what all of you think about this topic. I can 90% agree with the general consensus. Cheers all :)

Map 09: Sabbath Sewers. Playing this now, after 22 years feels like entering the time machine. And honestly, playing this on such modern technology feels ambivalent. It's good to relive the (kind of) same experience I had 22 years ago. It's bad because I know it will never be the same fresh as back then, on the cathode-ray tube screen, the old mechanic keyboard, mouse with the ball inside, shitty headphones. Some of the magic has also faded away. The long boring tunnels at that time seemed like exciting invitation to adventure with never before seen textures and structures of a brand new world. This map really blew my mind as it was so different from every doom 1 or 2 map I have played so far. It was VERY different, and super exciting and fresh. This underground sewer-system leading to action-parts reminded me of Wizardry 7, Crusaders of the dark savant, which I loved. It was almost like being able to sink into that world in first person, probably another reason why I am so biased towards loving this specific level of MM2.

I played the shit out of this when it came out. And I still love it, every moment, but it's just the nostalgia. Nothing will ever replicate that end-of-nighties Doom 2 feeling. Please keep the little nostalgic tidbits coming, I am really happy to read those. I was never in contact with anyone from the Memento Mori 2 team, but if anyone of you guys might read this - THANK YOU :)

    Mutiny [Community Project]

Thanks for this. As a huge fan of STRAIN and the cyberpunk/techbase theme, I enjoyed this a LOT. I wish I could buy each of you a beer :)

Who composed which midis in Icarus?

I'd love to contact Jonathan but I'm afraid I'd end up like I did with David Shaw - waiting a year for him to see my message in Facebook's other folder :) With Jonathan it would be easier since he has a wider online presence, and he refreshed his blog just a few days ago. Still this is a great summary and I believe all songs are covered now. You guys are amazing - and I thought I'm the only living person on the planet passionate about Icarus's music after 20 years but it seems luckily that's false. Similarly I'm also interested in Requiem, Evilution, both MMs and all the other 90's stuff so thanks for that info! :)

Who composed which midis in Icarus?

One of my favorites. Thanks for all the replies!
  7. Hi doomgals and doomguys, I'd like to identify who composed which track in Icarus. If I remember correctly there was a text file that contained the author of each mus file included in the wad but I can't find it now. David Shaw was easy because his website contains every midi he ever composed for doom wads. I extracted the mus files from the wad but the names are not really informative. I'm really interested to know who composed the D_SHAWNX.mus ones where X is 1 to 3. If you have any info please let me know. Thanks :)

    THT: Threnody - released!

Hi all. I am still in the middle of this wad but I want to give some feedback (now on map 12). Wow... this is really amazing. I am totally blasted away. So far the maps feel like a very good mixture of the way I remember Ty's maps and the way I remember playing custom Doom wads in the 90s in general, I still remember the first one I downloaded back when the www was gestating. The feeling is very close. Cramped, confusing, but still systematic, and decipherable. THT is very detailed though, and the boom features are a huge plus. And the music is totally gorgeous. So far for me, this is total nostalgia trip. I know Ty would enjoy this. Thanks guys.

    The Doom Confessional Booth

I loved Icarus when it was released and was really looking forward for Daedalus. Of course it was totally different.. I still didn't finish it. Basically I had no idea what to do in the second part and after exhausting my possibilities I just lost interest. I still feel like a retard for not finding out what to do.
  10. I really liked this. The concept of levels "reconfiguring" themselves is very interesting and I think should be explored even more.

Help needed with RTC-3057 hub 1

Thank you very much for your fast responses! I tried to run the WAD with zdoom 2.0.63a and it works perfectly. :) But I'll try to fix the WAD myself with Graf's instructions, so I can play it with gzdoom, the opengl rendering is beautiful.
  12. Hello everyone! First of all let me say sorry if this question was already posted and answered a few times. I searched the forums before registering but found nothing on the issue. I also looked into the txt file, tried gzdoom instead of zdoom, gotten the new fresh versions, went into the console commands, searched google, but didn't manage to solve the problem so pretty much this forum is my only help left :p So. When I start zdoom with the wad, always an error message pops up that says: Tried to register class 'Pistol' more than once. Then the loading stops. :( Damn, I'm really desperate to play this wad :) Any help is very very appreciated. Cheers!
