Sacrifice DM 3: Shedding Skin

  • File name: Dmdsac03.wad
  • Author: Derek "Afterglow" Mac Donald
  • Map Size: 96k
  • Map Summary: A brick and metal style level simular to the first Sacrifice DM level. (Excerpted from dmdsac03.txt)

  • The third of the Sacrifice series is very simular to Sacrifice DM1 in appearance, but boast quite a different aspect in gameplay.

The third addition to the Sacrifice series seems to be the worst in the group in just about all aspects. Though it is alot more detailed than the first, it doesn't boast the same amount of quality as the first one had. All the architecture makes you feel cramped and it can even get in your way at times. Some people like it, but I prefer more openness in levels.

Pic 01 this area looks simular to the outside area in the first Sacrifice level

The level is a series of circular hallways which connects to a small center area which has a BFG up top. There are alot of eye candy effects all throughout the level, and alot of ceiling details that makes the level feel a little more "twisted".

pic 2 Alot of interesting ceiling architecture gives the level a more twisted twist:)

This level seems to have the most problems out of the all. The gameplay balance that the previous two levels had seems to be lost in this one. The reason would probably have to be the megasphere, though it is easy to toast a 200/200 player, since it's so easy to get stuck in the walls. The BFG also seems to be a little too easy to get. Once someone gets that, they can camp out by the exit door and get some cheap frags. Not fun.

pic 3 Lots of great architecture, but it really effects the flow of the game, even more than the previous levels.

Although a good map, and pretty fun to play, it pales in comparison to the previous levels in all aspects of level design and playability. If you expect the same as what you thought you would get normally from Afterglows maps, don't expect it in this one. It seems like he put alot into it, but it just doesn't suit me. It might be cool to someone else though, so give it a try if you think you might think differently.

    The Doom DM Resource Recommends:
  • 2-4 Players
  • DM1 mode if you don't want gameplay unbalanced too much
  • Internet play and LAN play. The Cajun barfs this one out
  • Try out all of the other Sacrifice DM maps, get some buddies for a LAN party, and frag all night!
  • Get Sacrifice DM3 from Afterglow's Site.
