Sacrifice DM 2: Bringer of Death

  • File name: Dmdsac02.wad
  • Author: Derek "Afterglow" Mac Donald
  • Map Size: 138k
  • Map Summary: A medium sized military/industrial style level. A good hunt and chase level 1 on 1, but better suited for 3+ players (Excerpted from dmdsac02.txt)

  • Sacrifice DM is a set of deathmatch levels created by Derek Mac Donald. The first in the series was a rather small brick and metal type of level with blood flowing below a blood red sky. The second in the series is rather different.

The architecture and detail is beautiful! It definately gives you the impression you are in some type of military base. The lighting is incredibly detailed and moody, the structures are quite an eyesight, and it barely hinders the gameplay.

Pic 01 The main area, complete with the obstructing pillars and annoying water pits

The level is a main arena with a rocket launcher in the center, with hallways, crate rooms, and various sorts of things circling it. The level is large for 1 on 1, but it is still playable, just not quite as frantic as I like it. This level is quite excellent with 3 players, and I'm sure 4 would dbe even better.

pic 2 Boy am I glad that plasma gun is a little harder to get

Now for the bad stuff. The really bad thing is that the plasma gun really unbalances the gameplay. Even though it is really hard to get without getting splattered by a foe's rocket, once a player gets it, he can control the game, especially considering the fact that there are bulk cells nearby. Another problem is the architecture gets in the way sometimes. even though its all quite eye stunning, there are beams and pillars that can really get in your way. there's nothing more bothersome than shooting your rocket launcher in the face:)

pic 3 Looks great doesn't it? it seems to be more of an annoyance soemtimes

There's a cool feature where you hit a switch and the water in the main arena comes down. I laughed my ass off when I hit the switch and found my opponent in there getting health. That health wasn't much help when I pummeled his ass with my rocket>:)

In conclusion, I would like to say that this map is excellent, and even though quite different from the first map, it makes one hell of a good successor. The ZCajun doesn't handle it as well as the first map did, but it still plays...OK. Let's just say its good theyy don't know how to get the plasma:)

    The Doom DM Resource Recommends:
  • 3+ Players
  • Ports that suport Boom features only!
  • DM3 mode. Maybe falling damage if you're using ZDoom
  • Internet play if latency is above par. LAN would be a blast. A group of four would own!
  • Make sure no one gets the plasma!:)
  • Try out all of the other Sacrifice DM maps, get some buddies for a LAN party, and frag all night!
  • Get Sacrifice DM2 from Afterglow's Site.
