Sacrifice DM 1: Blood in the River

  • File name: Dmdsac01.wad
  • Author: Derek "Afterglow" Mac Donald
  • Map Size: 73k
  • Map Summary: Your ordinary run of the mill brick and metal map, but with alot of excellent detail and great gameplay. (Excerpted from dmdsac01.txt)

  • I remember checking out some screenshots of this map a while back, and thinking of how great the map may be, but I never got around to playing it. Good think Afterglow told me about his level, because it is one great DM map...In most aspects.

One thing you'll notice when you launch the game is it's plain and simple brick and metal combination of textures, with blood flowing all over the place. The textures are plain, but the architecture is simple stunning. This level is good proof that even simple levels can look increidbly great!

Pic 01 Simple, plain, but beautiful...and playable!

Gameplay is hammered on every single aspect of this level. Its very open and getting from one side of the level to the other is a breeze, even in a lagged ZDoom game. 1 on 1 play is just an absolute blast in this level, but playing with more is a little too tense, and sometimes quite frustrating. If you like the frantic Overload style, go ahead and play with more players, but this is definately 1 on 1 material.

pic 2 This is a good view eh? And I'm not talking about the blur sphere:)

There are a couple problems. The biggest being that the plasma gun totally ruins the gameplay if they get enough ammo. Playing skill 5 with alt deathmatch mode will give you almost 300 units of plasma ammo as soon as you grab it. Since the map is small and open, spawn fragging is easy. Sit in the center with your double barrel and you can spawn frag almost every time before your opponent can get a weapon...That is unless they know how to dodge;)

pic 3 Play skill 5 and DM2 mode and this plasma gun will drop gameplay like a landslide.

One last thing I should point out is since the map is so open and easy to navigate, you can play this map on any kind of platform. LAN, ZDoom, even the Cajun Bot runs this map like a dream! Just ake sure you use a source port that's free from VPO limits. Reading the text is important ya know:)

OK I have another thing to say. Download the map, it rocks!!!

    The Doom DM Resource Recommends:
  • 2 Players
  • DM1 Mode on skill 5, or DM2 mode on a lower skill setting.
  • Internet, LAN play, and Cajunbot play.
  • Try out all of the other Sacrifice DM maps, get some buddies for a LAN party, and frag all night!
  • Get Sacrifice DM1 from Afterglow's Site.
