King of the Hill

  • Anyone should know what king of the hill is. The object of king of the hill is to keep yourself in one area (Usually an elevated area known as the "hill) and keep anyone else out of it by any means possible. Usually the person that stays on the hill the longest wins, but who keeps track?:)

    The game is quite a blast to play (Get a couple of buddies and try for yourself), so why shouldn't 3D games have it? Well, all of those familiar with Quake 2 and more of the modern 3D games should know that King of the Hill has been made as a mod for those games. Now with the power of ZDoom and ACS scripting, Rick Clark has brought King of the Hill to Doom.

    The main arena This is the main arena, were many will fall prey to the King...That is, unless you stay in the middle and on the ground.

    King of the Hill is a small, simple map made by Rick Clark that tries to recapture the fun and enjoyment of the King of the Hill many guys play all the time, except with guns, and weapons, and on a computer. One of the fun this is the rocket turret that shoots over 250 rockets and every direction. It takes a little too long to reload, but its loads of fun when your friends/foes get pummeled by 6-10 simultaneous rockets>:)

    Another fun thing is that the gravity is cranked way hi, so that you can jump really, really, high. There's nothing more fun than sneaking under the window of the "hill" and pummeling anyone inside with your double barrel:)

    The hill Here's a pic of whats considered the "hill", complete with access to the cannons in the main arena, the nasty rocket launcher, an imp fireball launcher by the stairs, and a health station.

    The Hill itself has many useful things that can accompany the person inside. You can fire fireballs all throughout the arena, fire imp fireballs down the stairway to the hill, fire a nasty rocket launcher attack, and a small health station in case you get hurt. but that usually won't happen.

    There are quite a few flaws. One of them being the fact you don't get any frags for killing an opponent with your turrets, which really kind of bites. Just ignore the scores, and you'll still have a blast anyway! Another bad thing is that there are no turrets that fire down the middle of the arena, except for the rocket launcher attack, but that only fires once a minute. All a person has to do is sit in the middle and they can't get hurt by the turrets.

    Despite these two major flaws, King of the Hill is still quite a blast to play with 3 or more players. The more you have, the more fun you'll have, and the more carcasses you'll find on the floor after firing 250+ rockets at your command>:)

    The Doom DM Resource Recommends:
  • 3+ players. The more the better!
  • Weapons stay recommended, as well as respawning items, but doesn't really matter.
  • Internet play will be fun even with high lag, but LAN play would be a blast!
  • Ignore the frag score. Keep yourself on the hill and have fun:)
  • Get King of the Hill from Wildman's Corner.
